Squirrels
At last count, we can identify at least a dozen squirrels here at the new house. We have even named a couple of them. We have retired the "BFS" name, and replaced him with Buddha Squirrel. Buddha is fairly large, but sedate and seems always lost in thought. Then there's Lucky, an understandably skittish little guy considering he has half a tail and only 3 feet. We called him Lucky because he escaped whatever it was that got the missing bits of him. Below are pictures of Little One and Buddha. Little One is constantly chased and attacked by many of the others. His coloring is darker due to all the bites he has gotten. His fur grows in darker over the wounds. Buddha leaves him alone, so those two will be seen together, usually early before the others wake up.

Here is Little One. He keeps to the edge of the deck as to make a quick getaway should the others ambush him.

This is Buddha. Buddha is a really laid back squirrel. He never runs, he is never in a panic, he pretty much sits around and eats a seed here and there. He always seems to be lost in thought. You can usually find Buddha sitting on the back railing contemplating the universe.

Contemplating the universe is hard work, especially for a squirrel. Buddha takes his time.

Ordinarily, one would not stop to try to imagine what is going on in the mind of a squirrel. But obviously, there is something happening here. He is calculating Pi? Composing a sonnet? Considering the existence of things unseen? Challenging reality? This squirrel obviously is burdened with very deep thoughts. Such is the sad life of misunderstood genius.
