Critters page 3
A few more squirrel shots from early 2004
Above is Lucky, a squirrel with half his tail missing and a useless right hind foot. We figure something grabbed him, but he escaped. He has a kindred spirit, another half-tailed squirrel with a completely missing left hind foot. That is Lucky 2, but I have not been able to catch a shot of him as yet.
This is Cujo, the biggest squirrel in the 'hood. He chases all the other critters off and has been the most aggressive to poor Little One. I was unable to identify what exactly it was that he is seen here chewing on. I joked that he was gnawing on a bone, but I assumed it was a root of some kind. However...
A couple days ago we had the deck power washed. This meant removing everything, including the critters' food dish. This obviously did not sit too well with Cujo: he left us a message. On the completely cleaned off deck railing, I saw the above item. Yes, it is the same thing Cujo was chewing on, and yes it IS a bone! Based on the nasty teeth marks—and the fact that a squirrel was chewing on a bone to begin with—I am thinking it is best to stay on this guy's good side.
Here is Cujo again. We saw him in a fight a couple days ago. If he looks like this, I don't want to know what the other one looks like. We got some peanuts for the critters, but they were salted...and Cujo did not think much of them.
Cujo thought he needed to send us another message. Those salted nuts were not good enough, so he pulled out another bone from his lair and chewed it in front of us. Above he is giving us a clear signal: get the food right, or this is you.
